The Toddler Class Ages 2 to 3 years
8:45 a.m. - 12:00 noon OR 8:45 a.m. - 5:30 p.m. Transition Class: 5 mornings a week
The Montessori Two's class is specifically designed to introduce children gradually to their first school experience. Warm and responsive teachers work with the children to facilitate their transition from home to school. The Two's class stresses social interaction and discovery of a work cycle. Specific tasks, developmentally appropriate to this age group, are presented in such a way that the competence the children gain is obvious and exciting.Children this age are making great strides toward independence. They are ready to separate from their parents and can benefit from spending a few hours with other children. They are not yet quite ready for the larger Montessori environment of the Children's House. This class emphasizes movement, language development and socialization in a well designed setting. The materials offered are simple, suited to the interests and capabilities of very young children. The children are not required to be toilet trained. The small class size (10 - 12 students with two teachers) enables the children to receive the special attention they need to prepare them for the larger world of the Children's House. A phase-in process begins in late August with parents and children visiting for an hour or so. This time gradually increases as the children settle in.
