Elementary

Ages 6 - 12

 (Lower and Upper Elementary Program)

8:45 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

By the time children enter the Elementary Classes they have been exposed to a rich  curriculum for three years. Already they have some basic reading and writing skills to initiate research into the questions and interests that are emerging at this age. The children are  absorbed in ideas and seek information about the universe. Curriculum content is presented in a relevant, historical and interesting context. It is during these years that the children must  develop skills which will support learning throughout life. Our goal as Montessori educators is to inspire them to take on that responsibility and seek answers to their own questions.

Our reading program uses a wide variety of materials which includes the Junior Great  Books program to develop fluency and comprehension. There is a strong emphasis on communication skills, particularly writing. Mathematics is approached with concrete materials  so that students will understand the operations once they reach the abstract level. Geography, history and science are included in the curriculum and all of the students study a foreign language. Each child has exposure to computers and participates in art, music, drama and physical education.
