Children's House Ages 3 - 6
Primary Level: - 5 days a week
8:45 a.m. - 12:00 noon and 8:45 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. (Extended Day)
Children may enter this level between 3 and 4 years of age. We strongly recommend enrollment before the fourth birthday to experience the full Montessori learning cycle. We anticipate that children will develop a love of learning for its own sake as they move through the basic academic areas of language, mathematics, science and geography. Practical life activities help the children gain confidence as they use familiar materials to care for themselves and their classrooms. Experiences in art and music are part of a rich curriculum.
In our classes, children of mixed ages, abilities and backgrounds work together. They are guided to choose activities suited to their particular stage of development. They move about the room and work uninterrupted as long as they wish. Expectations are clearly defined. Limits are few, but firm. Respect for the child's individuality is always given priority.
The Children's House program includes an EXTENDED DAY option (until 3:30 p.m.) for children who have been in Montessori for approximately two years and whom the teacher feels are ready for group instruction and extended work cycles.
All new children at this level are scheduled to attend an orientation before school starts in September.
While parents are unquestionably attracted to Ghent Montessori by its high academic standards and excellent transfer record to other schools, they are equally drawn by its emphasis on a need for strong ethical and social values.
